The Bass Festival Is Back

The Rio Vista Bass Festival is back and will once again accompany the Bass Derby!

The Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce and the Bass Derby & Festival Committee are planning for Bass Derby & Festival on Columbus Day Weekend, October 10, 11 & 12, 2008.

The plans for the festival include some significant changes in format. We have talked with and listened to many members of the community. The resounding theme in the conversation is that Bass  Festival should return to what it was in the 50’s & 60’s.

In the early years the festival was a “community” event and people from all over the San Francisco Bay Area came to play. This year it will be a small town fair with a carnival, entertainment,  parade, a car show with potentially over 200 cars, fireworks, soapbox derby, lighted boat parade, pancake breakfast, barbeques, cooking contests, local artist booths, and local charities and service groups that provided food  booths for the event.

The festival promoted a sense of community and it helped to fund many of the local organizations like the Boy Scouts, 4-H, cheerleaders, etc. The goal will be to return to the festival of  yesteryear.

The committee is looking for entertainment, so if you are interested, please contact Brent or Hope Cohn, this year’s event chairs at 707-398-6159 - Hope.Cohn@comcast.net or contact the Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce at 707-374-2700 or info@bassfestival.com

Those that would like a booth in the arts and crafts section please contact Jan Vick at 707-375-5025 or seawingphotography@mac.com

The Chamber of Commerce and the Bass Festival Committee would like to invite local community groups who are interested in participating in the Bass Festival to attend the monthly planning  meetings held on the second Tuesday of every month at 6:00 pm at the Chamber of Commerce Office located at 50 N. 2nd Street, Rio Vista, CA 94571.
